Government Schemes Supporting Agri-Exporters

The Indian government offers several schemes and incentives to encourage agricultural exports. These support exporters with financial assistance, infrastructure, market access, and compliance tools.

One of the flagship schemes is RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products), which refunds taxes not covered under GST. It improves competitiveness by lowering overall costs. Another key scheme is TMA (Transport and Marketing Assistance), which supports transportation costs for agri-exports, especially to far-off markets like Europe or the USA.

Exporters can also benefit from the Agriculture Export Policy, which promotes export clusters, farmer training, and quality certifications. Agencies like APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) provide market intelligence, financial support, and help with international exhibitions.

MEIS (Merchandise Exports from India Scheme) was recently replaced but offered broad-based benefits. Exporters must now register under ICEGATE and DGFT portals to avail of new digital schemes.

To fully utilize these schemes, exporters should keep updated with notifications from the Ministry of Commerce, file applications on time, and maintain proper documentation.

By leveraging these schemes, agri-businesses can enhance their global footprint, reduce operational costs, and build long-term trade partnerships.
